Olympic bronze medal-winning gymnast Beth Tweddle is taking legal action against the makers of TV show, The Jump, after she fractured her vertebrae while taking part in the Channel 4 programme.
The 33-year-old had to undergo surgery on her neck and spinal cord after she crashed into a barrier following a training jump during the third series of the winter sports show in 2016.
Ms Tweddle was the first female gymnast from Great Britain to win a medal at the European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games. She retired in August 2013 and starred in ITV’s Dancing on Ice before taking part in The Jump.
To date, the defendants involved in producing The Jump, have denied liability for Ms Tweddle’s injuries. As a result, court proceedings have now been issued.
The Jump, which first aired in 2014 with 12 contestants, saw celebrities take on challenges like ski-jumping and speed skating.
However, over the course of the programme, 34 contestants, including Olympians Sir Bradley Wiggins, Linford Christie and Rebecca Adlington, sustained injuries and were forced to withdraw.
While the programme came to an end in 2017, the legal repercussions could be only just beginning.
