Employers should note that today (10 June 2020) is the last day on which they can place employees on furlough leave for the first time and be eligible to claim the relevant grant payments under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).
The scheme, which has been extended until 31 October, will close to new entrants on 30 June, meaning that from 1 July employers will only be able to claim in respect of employees who have been furloughed for a minimum period of three weeks before 30 June.
From 1 July, furloughed employees will be able to work part-time whilst still remaining furloughed. Employers will be responsible for paying their wages for the periods they work and the government will continue to make furlough payments in respect of any part of their normal hours that they have not worked.
To be eligible for the flexible furloughing scheme from 1 July, an employee not previously furloughed needs to be placed on furlough from 10 June to 30 June.
