Sarah Puts Best Foot Forward for Steph’s Wishes

On Sunday 28th April, Sarah Ockenden was one of 42,906 people to take to the streets of London in the famous Virgin Money London Marathon.

Sarah, a member of the Personal Injury and Medical Negligence Team, ran the 26.2 mile course in aid of Nockolds’ Charity of the Year, Steph’s Wishes, a Hertfordshire-based charity that raises money for young adults in the UK who have been diagnosed with recurring or terminal cancer.

She completed the prestigious race in a very impressive 5 hours and 58 minutes and has so far raised a total of £1,630 – beating her original fundraising target by 25%.

This is the first marathon that Sarah has taken part in, and she commented ‘I had such an amazing day soaking up the atmosphere and chatting to fellow runners along the way. I loved how London came together for the event with so many people out to cheer everyone along.

One of my highlights was the family who were handing out ice poles to runners, thank you very much – that was the most amazing cola ice pole ever!’

Sarah’s incredible achievement builds on Nockolds’ commitment to supporting charities and the local community.

Steph’s Wishes was set up in the name of Stephanie Knight who tragically lost her battle to Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2013. It is a cause very close to the heart of one of Nockolds’ staff members, Michelle Ives, who grew up with and supported Steph throughout her diagnosis.

Later on this year, a group of 40 staff members (including family, friends and dogs) will take part in a 35-mile trek along the Norfolk coastal path. If you would like to support the team, please visit: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/nockoldscoastalchallenge to make a donation.
