Employers are required to ensure their employees have the right to work in the UK. The employee is required to provide the relevant documentation to prove they have the right to work, and the employer is required to check and verify the documentation.
If the employer is found to be employing illegally, then they face a fine of up to £20,000 per employee.
The fine will be increasing in January 2024, to £45,000 per employee.
