In a work setting this means that everyone should have the same rights to apply for and be selected for job vacancies, be trained and promoted during employment and treated equally and fairly and to be protected from being dismissed for an unfair reason.

This means that no one should be discriminated at work or when applying for a job on the basis of protected characteristics such as age, sex, race, disability, and pregnancy, amongst others, but it also means that those working part time should not be treated differently from those working full time, agency workers are given similar rights to their permanent colleagues and apprentices and the enhanced rights of apprentices are upheld.
